Like people the world over, Hurricane films love a good story. They have told them in short films, single dramas, documentaries and a feature film. The Hurricane ethos is to make films the company is passionate about with people dedicated to getting the best up on the screen.

Since its inception, in March 2000, Hurricane Films has dealt in the development & production of creative content.

For example, Hurricane Films completed WARSHIP in March 2001 a 4x60’ History series in association with Granada TV for PBS network America. It was the first time for Granada to be commissioned outright by an American broadcaster (WNET13 NYC) and the original idea came from Hurricane Films.

The landmark series WARSHIP has been aired in over fifty countries worldwide.

In early 2004 the company took a step toward a longer form of dramatic story telling with the production of its first feature film, Under The Mud. The project started life as a European Social Fund script workshop and has grown into a feature film. The unique nature of the project saw community groups working in harmony with commercial companies placing social responsibility and Hurricane Films at the hub.

Today Hurricane Films is actively pursuing a slate of low budget features and riding the crest of the new digital media wave never forgetting it’s the story that keeps us all surfing for the beach….

PRINCIPALS

sol, julie and roy

Solon Papadopoulos
Producer, Director

Solon Papadopoulos started out as a marine engineer but began his creative life as a stills photographer-moving on to shoot film after a 16mm short course at the National Film School. After making documentaries and short dramas for the last few years as a freelance, and collecting a number of awards along the way, he founded Hurricane Films in March 2000.

Julie Currie
Head of Development

Julie Currie joined Hurricane Films in May 2001 after a whirlwind five years making programmes for pretty much all the terrestrial channels. Julie’s diversity & cricket skills together with her previous experience at both BAFTA and the agency formally known as The Moving Image Development Agency (MIDA) are invaluable to a company that likes to tell good stories-whether fact or fiction.

Roy Boulter
Writer, Producer
Roy Boulter joined Hurricane as company director in 2001. A former member of the chart-topping band The Farm, Roy is a scriptwriter with over a hundred and thirty television writing credits to his name, including an eight-year stint on Brookside. His vast experience working in television drama and expert tea making has proved an invaluable addition to the company as it goes from strength to strength.
