Dead Drunk
A Hard-hitting Film About Underage Drinking

The DEAD DRUNK Teaching Pack - Price £65.00 + vat (Inc P&P) As seen on BBC Learning Zone in October 2002

Dead Drunk is an educational drama that looks at the culture of drinking from the perspective of a group of teenagers on the cusp of adulthood. "The film sets out to inform and educate a teenage audience of the pitfalls of excess," says producer Sol Papadopoulos. The films tells the story in a compelling and compassionate way without patronising the teenage audience it is targeted at.

"DEAD DRUNK is a moving portrayal of friendship and family relationships as well as the devastating affect of alcohol abuse on people's lives. It will both inform and stimulate discussion amongst young people." Sue Nott, Head of Education, CBBC.

The Teaching Pack is now available from Hurricane Films for £65.00 plus vat. The pack has already proved popular amongst Local Education Authorities, Youth groups and schools. 'Dead Drunk' was made by Liverpool-based Hurricane Films with support from Merseyside Health Action Zone, Littlewoods, Liverpool City Council, Sports & Arts Foundation, North West Vision, Liverpool Neighbourhood Services and the Liverpool Anti-Social Behaviour Unit. The Teaching pack includes a CD-Rom with supporting information for teachers and students, including a guide to alcohol units, statistics and suggested exercises. (CD-Rom documents require Acrobat Reader).

The Film

This dramatic and poignant story concerns teenager Jay and the impact alcohol has made on his life. His mother regularly makes a laughing stock of him getting drunk in the local pub. The only escape route he sees for himself is to join the army like his absent father, a dream he shares with Matthew, a boy from his block who craves acceptance from Jay's gang.

He comes home one night to find his mother dancing in the arms of a stranger. A bitter row ensues in which his mum reveals a startling truth about the father he idolises. In a state of distress Jay runs out and encounters a group of his friends including Matthew, who touchingly reminds him of their shared ambition. They all spend the night by the canal downing vodka and alcopops, until, in an agonisingly realistic sequence, Jay, Matthew and friends are confronted with the perils of drinking
