We look for rich and moving stories that lift hearts or shine a light on the human condition in an original and enlightening way. Working with established auteurs or raw beginners – we only get involved in projects that we are totally passionate about.
In 2009 we released ‘Under The Mud’, which was well received by critics and audiences alike at film festivals around the world. Hurricane Films also acted as a distributor for the film, which has also been acquired by the BBC and is currently available on DVD.
Our 2008 production ‘Of Time and the City’ is a lyrical, visual poem directed by one of Britain’s greatest auteurs, Terence Davies. The film was selected to play at a special ‘out-of-competition screening’ at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, where it received huge critical acclaim. The film played at over fifty five film festivals around the world, winning the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Documentary and gaining a BAFTA Nomination.
In 2014 Hurricane Films produced the Terence Davies’ intimate epic ‘Sunset Song’, shot on 65mm film and Arri Alexa in Scotland, New Zealand and Luxembourg. The film stars Agyness Deyn, Peter Mullan and Kevin Guthrie. It has been selected to play at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015. In May 2015, principal filming began on Terence Davies’ next project, ‘A Quiet Passion’. The film is a biographical drama surrounding the life of Emily Dickinson, starring Cynthia Nixon, Keith Carradine, and Jennifer Ehle. Filming wrapped in mid-June, with the eventual release already hotly anticipated.
