BIOGRAPHY – SOL PAPADOPOULOS, DIRECTOR
A six-time winner of the Royal Television Award and twice BAFTA nominated, Sol began his creative life as a stills photographer before progressing on to moving image following a 16mm course at the National Film School.
Sol’s documentary work has taken him all over the world, from aircraft carriers in Pearl Harbor to deserts in the Middle East. After making documentaries and short dramas as a freelancer for all the major broadcasters – collecting numerous awards along the way – he founded Hurricane Films with Roy Boulter in March 2000. The ethos to tell great stories is what drives him.
Together with Roy, Sol produced three Terence Davies films, Of Time and The City, Sunset Song and A Quiet Passion. All three were well received by critics, with Of Time and The City being BAFTA-nominated.
Sol’s upcoming releases include My Letter To The World and A Prayer Before Dawn. Sol served as director and producer on the Emily Dickinson documentary My Letter To The World, which explores Emily’s life and poetry and features a number of distinguished experts. Sol has acted as producer on A Prayer Before Dawn, which will be distributed by A24 in North America.
Sol is set to serve as producer on several projects in development, including family drama Triple Word Score (dir. Carl Hunter), written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and starring Bill Nighy, Victorian rom-com caper Rum Doxy Diver (dir. Lindy Heymann), and OAP odyssey The Last Bus (dir. Gilles MacKinnon).
